All of us have been working non-stop the last few months. Late nights, weekends, aching backs and stiff necks. But we've kept all our deadlines and even some that popped up in the middle.
Thank you so much for another amazing year of stunning writing. Just when we think we've seen the very best...another gem falls into our laps.
We are going to be away so everyone can recuperate and recharge their batteries.
We will return on January 6th, refreshed and ready to take on the world again.
Be safe and enjoy your celebrations!
And don't forget...a book makes a great gift!

2019 National Young Writers Contest Book
We are waiting for the book to be approved.
Hopefully, we'll get the thumbs up by tomorrow morning and we'll send out a mass email letting everyone know it's available online. If all of the planets align, any books you order through Amazon, should be to you prior to Christmas. The contributor copies will not be going out before Christmas due to the immense load on the postal services.
Patricia Edmisten's book "A Quiet Beauty"
What an amazing gift it is to be able to work with brilliant people who create such breath-taking works of art!
Oh, Patricia, we were all so thrilled to help you with this true masterpiece. Filled with stunning photos and writing so rich it simply must be enjoyed with a glass of wine in a deep, comfortable chair.
We are not worthy of individuals as elegant and loving as Patricia...but my goodness are we grateful she chose to work with us. Congratulations, dear friend.
Congratulations to Anne James!
Massive congratulations go out to Anne James on the publication of her second "Zoo" book, Mystery at the Zoo, which winds up taking place at the Memphis Botanic Garden. It's such a delightful and beautiful book for any parent looking for a lovely story to share with their children. What a joy it was to work with Anne, again.
We're so happy for you, Miss Anne!!

A Daughter Says Goodbye...
"Goodbye, Mama" is the 2014 book about a daughter's struggle with grief while taking care of her terminally ill mother.
After hitting #1 on Amazon's Best Seller list, "Goodbye, Mama" was listed as a resource by the American Cancer Survivors Network: "Highly emotional, inspiring."
A tender story of two adults coming to terms with the knowledge that death will soon separate them, and a daughter's turmoil after the loss of her mother. Get your copy HERE.
Reader reviews:
"Susan, I started to read your book today. It is hard for me to put it down. I can relate to it so much because my father has lung cancer and is in stage four. You are a blessed angel. Thank you."
Janet, NY
"I read 'Goodbye, Mama' over the holidays and I want you to know I thought it a remarkable story of courage, love and heartbreak. The way you folded in the varied poetry with the occasional vignettes of growing up is masterful. Truthfully, it took me a while to pick it up and start reading but after the first few pages, I could hardly put it down. Nice job all the way."
Rear Admiral Pete Booth
Retired Navy
"Thank you for sharing your Mama's story and how you dealt with everything. Thank you for inviting readers to feel that they knew your Mama. The book brought many tears and smiles. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I just loved reading about you and your Mama. All the great things you both did together and the special bond you shared. It was an amazing book and one that let me reflect deeply on the loss of my Mom and again, I thank you."

Ora Wills first book event
Anyone who has had the privilege of speaking with Ora walks away with a deep reverence for that moment. She is a petite, soft-spoken woman who houses a tsunami of knowledge. Working with her on this project was an unbelievable honor, and left each one of us with a deeper appreciation for the immense struggles of those who fought oppression of every form seeking freedom, in all forms.
If you have the opportunity to meet this woman, please do. You'll never forget the encounter. And her book will change you.

National Young Writers Poetry Contest
Proper Publishing is proud to host the first National Poetry Contest for Middle and High School students, Grades 6-12. This contest is the brain-child of our owner and Executive Editor, Susan Lewis. After serving 8 years as Director of Student Poetry and Director of the Escambia County Student Poetry Contest for the West Florida Literary Federation, Mrs. Lewis decided she needed to offer an incentive for young writers to explore poetry, which will then help educators prepare for the writing portion of any state-mandated tests.
Students have the opportunity to submit poetry (32 line max), and all forms are accepted (including but not limited to the following: haiku, sonnet, limerick, narrative, couplet, free verse, cinquain, diamante, pantoum, tanka, villanelle, etc.) but may only enter the contest once. Handwritten submissions will not be accepted. Submissions must be printed on standard, white copy paper, black printer ink. Please ensure students name is not on the entry, only on the cover page.
Submissions will be accepted both via email and post. If submitting via email, submission MUST be sent as an email attachment, containing a cover letter with the information below, all fields must be completed. Submissions written in the body of the email or missing contact information will be deleted. All submissions sent via post must contain one cover letter for every student entered.
Contest submission window is February 1 to March 15. Submit your students best work, encourage experimentation and uniqueness. There is no prompt or theme for the first contest. Mrs. Lewis wants to see raw talent in its purest form.
Students chosen by Mrs. Lewis will be published in an anthology available on Amazon Worldwide and Kindle Worldwide. Students chosen will be notified by email and post, so please ensure all information is accurate. Teachers will be notified via email. Also, students chosen will receive one free copy of said anthology.
We hope you see this as a wonderful opportunity to encourage artistic growth and self-esteem in your students because that is our only goal. We look forward to reading remarkable work, as Mrs. Lewis has told us of the enormous impact educators make on children every day.
Include with each entry. PRINT VERY CLEARLY!
